We do not always know how to read them, what the recruiter actually expects and what information may be important to him. How to answer the question “Please tell me something about yourself”? Some questions are taken for granted in an interview. They do not always appear, it is obvious, but often enough to make it worth preparing for them.
Spontaneity in an interview may not be the best idea. Although it seems to us that we know everything about ourselves and nothing should be a problem for us, it may happen that when we hear a question, our minds go blank.
There is a certain set of questions that arise very often during such conversations, therefore, it is worth having ready answers to them. It’s not about memorizing them, of course, but preparation will make things much easier.
What are these questions? For example, about our strengths and weaknesses, the reasons for sending your application to this particular company or a short story about yourself. And it is just a few words about yourself in an interview that can be quite difficult. Why?

Occasionally the candidate does not understand why the recruiter asks him a few words about himself in an interview . After all, he has received our CV and cover letter, shouldn’t he then get such information out of them?
Therefore, it may seem to us that he is simply unprepared. He has not read the documents and therefore wants to know more about us. In this case, we may feel a bit irritated or surprised – since we took the time to prepare the documents, why didn’t the recruiter take the time to read them?
However, while this may happen, it is not always the case.

The Recruiter’s Perspective

Often times, the recruiter simply wants to reduce the tension. He realizes how stressful an interview can be for us, so he wants to start with something that will allow us to relax a bit.
Besides, he wants to get to know us, after all, he should care about creating a well-coordinated team of employees. Already during the interview, he wants to find out more about us to check our “fit”.
A few words about yourself during an interview is therefore often the first moment when a recruiter may think of us as an interesting candidate worth considering.

So let’s prepare a few words about yourself in advance so you don’t feel surprised and say everything that we think is the most important.

What to talk about

Remember that a few words about yourself in the interview must be your advertisement. You need to attract a recruiter to you, so you can’t be too modest or focus on less important issues. You only get one chance and try to make good use of it.
So think about what really makes you a unique candidate worth hiring. What makes you stand out from the crowd? How do you feel really good at? What makes others want to work with you? What is your greatest success?
It is worth honestly answering these questions and on the basis of them prepare a short presentation about yourself. As we have already mentioned, it is not about memorizing it, but it is worth having some notes with you so that you do not forget about anything.
We do not mean that you should be glorified to the heavens, but that you would be confident in yourself and in your abilities and be able to speak freely about it. Also remember that such a statement should not be long – try to stay within 3 minutes maximum. It doesn’t have to be a monologue either. Watch the recruiter and if you see him want to ask something, don’t skip it.

Which points to skip? contribute little or duplicate what is already contained in the application documents. We only have 3 minutes, so use them well.
We can certainly skip private issues such as family, children, marital status, religion … These are our private matters and we should remember this not only for us but also for the recruiter.
Don’t talk about the obvious – your name, surname or profession can certainly be read on your CV. You can spend this time on something else that the other side does not know about you yet.
Don’t look too far into the past. The history of your education from the 3rd grade of primary school is a bit too far – unless what happened then does indeed reflect in your future career.
A few words about yourself during the interview may make the recruiter interested in us and will want to take a closer look at us. Therefore, it is worth preparing for such a question and preparing a short presentation about yourself.
