Returning to your former job – can such a decision be a good idea?

We quit our job – we think we are underrated, we want to develop or change the industry. There can be many reasons for this decision. We find a new job in which we cannot find ourselves. We miss our former office, duties and colleagues. We wish we had changed something that really suited us. Suddenly there is a gate – return to former job. Does working for a former employer make sense? How to come back and why? Is it a good decision? Read this article to learn more.

Don’t burn bridges

The labor market is not as big as it may seem. You can come across former colleagues and even superiors everywhere. Therefore, for the sake of your career, it is not worth burning bridges when we leave the place where we have previously performed our duties.

We may leave the company for various reasons, often with regret or anger, but it is worth doing it with style. Say goodbye, don’t make a fuss, because I’m leaving anyway, let them know what I’m thinking! It is worth leaving the gate open, maybe from the perspective of the workplace, it will turn out to be really good and will leave pleasant memories? It’s hard to get it if we say goodbye to a big quarrel at the end.

Work to the end

When we know we are leaving, we give notice and we have our last days at work , we may be tempted to be lazy. After all, soon we will not be here any more, why start something new, why bother?

In order to leave a good impression and get the best references, and thus let the employer tell us when leaving, that our return is always welcome – let’s work until the end as if we had not quit. Let’s finish the projects, hand them over to someone, explain everything, be punctual and act as we have done so far.

New employer – big disappointment

We are leaving the old company, we appear in a new one, excited, because eventually we will spread our wings, meet new people, learn many things … and suddenly we are drenched in a bucket of cold water. The work is not that developing at all, the atmosphere does not suit us at all, and the organization is completely different than in the previous place. In a word – disappointment.

We start to catch ourselves that returning to our former job becomes our dream. We want to take care of our regular tasks, drink coffee with old friends during breaks, move around familiar corners. What to do?

Moving back to your former job

It’s not just disappointment that can be the cause. Some people change jobs because of their new place of residence. If they know it’s temporary, it’s really worth doing whatever you want to return to your former job to be possible. After all, in such a situation, after moving again, we know that we have something to come back to. If we quit with a bang or showed in the last days of work that we do not care about leaving a good impression – we would have to look for a job from scratch, which certainly takes much longer.

Is it a good idea to return to your former job?

You feel bad in the new company and start looking for a job. By the way, you notice that your former employer is looking for someone for “your” job. Should I call you with a proposal? Will you come back? It also happens that employers call with a proposal to return. What can such a solution give us? We come back after a few months of absence from the city – should we arrange an interview with the boss if he said we would always be welcome?

Returning to your former job should be carefully considered. We must know that if we want to return ourselves – our CV will certainly be carefully studied. The employer will want to know what prompted us to make such a decision.

We can also check how we reacted to the fact that we are reapplying for a former position – perhaps during the interview you will feel that we are being treated like someone who has failed and returns with a tucked tail. If we have the impression that we are treated this way – perhaps it is not worth entering into such an atmosphere? We will certainly not be feeling well and it will be more difficult for us to negotiate better terms. However, if it is not the boss who gives us to understand that we have failed in his eyes, but the colleagues, let us try to start working with our heads held high. Treat new professional experience as learning, something important. We cannot let ourselves be persuaded that the disappointment with the new one and the return to the former job is something we should be ashamed of. Probably colleagues will quickly understand that the jokes do not impress us and will give up on them.

If the employer calls with a proposal to return – we may be in a winning position in advance. Since it is the company that wants the employee to reappear in it, better working or financial conditions can be negotiated. Thanks to this, returning to your former job will mean a more interesting, better-paid job.

There should also be no problems when we move back to our former place of residence. If we know we have been a good employee and the employer and coworkers have regretted our loss, we should be welcomed with open arms and it can be really enjoyable to return to your former job.

If you are wondering about returning to your former job, it is worth pausing for a moment and carefully considering this issue. In the end, we left for some reason. Will the situation not repeat after my return? Was it really so good in the old job, or is the new one just worse and that’s why we feel something close to longing? It is worth considering a step that may make us go back in time and not change anything for the better. However, if we know that we made a mistake by changing jobs and we know that we have the opportunity to return, which we really want – do not hesitate. We will surely quickly forget that any break in work has taken place.
